Candace Garlock is a visual artist, educator, and curator based in Sparks, Nevada. Working across printmaking, sculpture, installation, artist books, and collaborative projects, her practice considers ecological change, migration, geology, resilience, and the layered histories held within landscapes.

Garlock’s work often begins with close observation of forests, birds, trees, waterways, and human-built environments. Through poetic visual narratives and material experimentation, she investigates how people and other living beings adapt to shifting climates, damaged ecosystems, and uncertain futures. Her projects connect regional research with broader questions of environmental responsibility, memory, and belonging.

Alongside her studio practice, Garlock teaches college-level foundation art and develops curriculum that supports creative inquiry, critical thinking, accessibility, and hands-on experimentation. She has organized exhibitions, traveling projects, workshops, and community-centered initiatives that bring artists and audiences into conversation around place and environmental change.

Her work moves between intimate printed matter and larger spatial installations, inviting viewers to look closely, imagine differently, and consider their relationship to the more-than-human world. A renowned printmaker whose work has been shown nationally and internationally, she has received multiple awards including the Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship in 2027, the Reno Tahoe Artist Best in Sculpture/3-D Artworks in 2022, Best of Show and Best in 2D Mixed Media in 2023 and Best in 2-D Artworks in 2024, the Nevada Regents’ Creative Activity Award in 2017. Her work is included in many prestigious collections including the Kinsey Institute, Zuckerman Museum of Art, Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper, Nevada Arts Council, the Lilley Museum of Art, and National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
